Thank you for asking!
We
are always praying for people to come alongside and help
us. Thank you for asking! Let us tell you about
ourselves. Homes of Hope is a registered Fijian Charity
Organization located in Suva, Fiji Islands. Its purpose
is to help single
mothers, young pregnant girls, and their children/babies.
It is an intensive discipleship program in which the
girls stay at a Residential Home for one to ten years.
During
that time, they are discipled in Christ, work on academic
skills (many of the girls can't sign their names or recognize
the alphabet) and develop a suitable vocation with the
purpose of financial independence.
Because of their pasts—many
were involved in prostitution, some have committed
murder, some were verbally or sexually
abused—it is a long, slow process of discipleship.
In order that relationships and trust can be established,
we ask that people would commit for at least 3 months;
yet, we suggest a one-year commitment.
Our volunteer
acceptance process is very simple. First peruse the
document entitled “Fiji Facts” as
well as this letter.
If you desire to continue, then
complete the Quick Application. We prefer that
you would return the
form electronically.
Following this initial contact we will send you
some more forms as well as a suggested job description.
From that
time, we will continue with our application relationship.
I would encourage you to search your heart. If you only
want a place to go for a quick trip, this
probably
isn't
the place for you. Yet, if you have a passion
burning in your heart to help the widows and orphans,
if
you are willing
to put others before yourself, and if you are
willing to live with others according to their customs,
we would love
to continue corresponding with you.
If after
reading the above requirements you are still interested,
please do complete the Quick
Application.
There is an application fee of
US$25.00 for individuals and US$100 for teams that
can be
sent to:

EXPECTATIONS WHILE IN FIJI
WORKING
WITH HOMES OF HOPE
ATTITUDE
- Expect to obey the
Fijian local leadership as well as any leadership
within Homes of Hope.
- Don't bring clothes or personal
things (Walkmans, books,
etc.) unless you are willing
to share.
- Come as a servant to everyone in everything. Expect
to work hard. If someone else is working
and you are not working, there is a problem!
- We expect that your life will be an example to those
that you are coming to serve; everything
that you do and say should glorify the Lord.
ACTIVITIES
- Don't expect to
go to the movies, as most people cannot afford
this–you
are to be an example.
- Expect to ride buses and not
drive.
- Expect to wake up before 6 a.m. each day and go
to bed by 9 p.m.
- Expect to eat and enjoy different food.
APPEARANCE
- No piercing for boys; ears and noses only
for girls.
- Modest clothes:
Girls: dresses and skirts below the knee; shorts
just above
the knee, loose clothing,
often covering
to your ankles
Boys: t-shirts
with appropriate
logos and
designs only
MONEY
Travel expenses from your place of origin to Suva,
Fiji will be your responsibility.
- If you are staying
more than four months, you will need to allow F$80.00
to extend your visitor's Visa.
- Any medical costs will be your responsibility.
- Please expect to pay a fair share of your lodging
and food. As the application process continues we will
discuss what is best
for your lodging. Most of the time F$50 a week will cover your expenses if you
live with
Fijians
and eat Fijian
food. (You will be responsible for your own
personal items: groceries for yourself or eating out, gifts, tourist excursions,
phone calls,
or regular
transport.)
- If you are staying more than one month, you will
need to plan on weekly expenses just as if you were
renting an apartment in your
home country. We will talk to
each of you individually about your own circumstances.
- We
strongly encourage you to give to good works; Homes
of Hope is a good work! Would you also consider making
a provision to give
a freewill offering to this
ministry?
NOTE: Again, we expect any volunteer to
be willing to live with a local family and contribute equitable
finances
to
them; to
provide all your
own financial
support and enough to give to others; and to
be a servant living a selfless life. We have high
expectations
of
people coming as
we
care
so much for
these girls
and their children. |
